Colours and their effect

Colors and Their Effects
To achieve perfect color results, a high level of technical expertise is essential. Pigmentation should be tailored optimally to each client. Therefore, when selecting colors, care must be taken to ensure that they harmonize with the client’s hair, skin, eye, and lip colors. It is also important to consider how the colors may appear differently on the skin.
For example, in lip pigmentation, the natural lip color serves as the starting point. A person’s clothing style and daily makeup habits also influence the choice of color and its intensity. A client who wears makeup every day will likely want a more intense result.
Pigments
Pigments are solid, insoluble particles that come in various sizes: the finer the pigments, the greater the intensity. Micronized (fine) pigments are therefore considered to be radiant and rich in color.

Basics
The color result is influenced by the raw material in the pigment mixture.
A distinction is made here between inorganic and organic pigments.
Inorganic pigments are derived from rock dust, rust, or other natural metal oxides.
Organic pigments are produced from plant- or animal-based materials, or synthetically, and are derived from mineral oils, hydrocarbon compounds, or carbon black.
The colors of both groups are safe, provided that care is taken during production to ensure a consistent shelf life without any color changes.
Color on and in the skin
Color appears differently on the skin than it does within the skin. As the skin heals, a new layer of skin forms over the pigment, which reduces the color’s intensity and vibrancy. As a result, the chosen color appears more intense immediately after the procedure than it does once the skin has fully healed.
When selecting a color, keep in mind that the color will appear different depending on how thick or thin it is applied to the skin. Therefore, apply only a thin line of color to the back of your client’s hand. At the end, blend it out with a cotton swab to get an idea of how the color will develop. The beginning of the stroke resembles the shade immediately after pigmentation, while the gradient shows how the color changes during the healing process.

Color Absorption and Appearance of the Color
The color result depends on the client’s skin type and the area to be pigmented. If the same pigment is applied to different areas of the skin, it may appear more intense in some places and more subtle and pale in others. This is due to the skin’s overall ability to absorb pigment, which varies depending on the area and skin type.
- Dry, normal, fine-pored skin absorbs the color well and retains sharp lines.
- Large-pored, oily skin has a harder time absorbing color. The lines appear less defined.
- The thinner the epidermis, the easier it is to introduce color pigments.
- The more receptive the dermis is, the richer the color result.
- The pigment is best stored in the dermis.
- Pigments embedded in the epidermis are pushed upward and shed as the skin renews itself.
- Paint is absorbed most quickly on the surface layer.
- The skin along the edge of the lips takes on the color a little more slowly, but more intensely.
- The further inward toward the mucous membrane the pigmentation extends, the less well the color is absorbed.
- The more the skin becomes calloused, the less intense the color becomes (sometimes a light exfoliation can help refresh the color).
- The drier the flakes of skin are on the skin, the more milky and translucent the color appears.
- The deeper a pigment is injected into the skin, the grayer and duller it appears.
- Some colors bleed under the skin (migration), especially when the tattoo is applied too deeply.
- Black pigments are smaller and remain more stable when embedded in the skin.
- Shallow, slow pigmentation makes the color shine.
